At Park Street Dental Clinic, we're excited to join in celebrating National Smile Month, a fantastic charity campaign led by the Oral Health Foundation. This nationwide campaign shines a spotlight on the importance of good oral health, and this year’s theme, “Feed Your Smile,” highlights the link between what we eat and the health of our teeth and gums. With that in mind, we’ll be exploring how your diet can help you maintain a strong, healthy and confident smile.

Your Diet, Your Smile

You’ve probably heard the saying “you are what you eat” and your smile is no exception. The foods and drinks you consume every day play a huge role in your oral health. A balanced diet doesn’t just keep your body healthy; it also helps keep your teeth strong, your gums healthy and your breath fresh.

What to Watch Out For

While the occasional treat is perfectly okay, here are a few things to enjoy in moderation:

  • Sugary snacks & drinks – These feed the bacteria in your mouth, which produce acids that can lead to tooth decay.

  • Acidic foods & fizzy drinks – These can wear down enamel and increase tooth sensitivity.

  • Sticky sweets – These cling to teeth longer, giving sugar-loving bacteria more time to do damage.

Smile-Friendly Foods

Here’s what your smile really loves:

  • Crunchy fruits & veggies like apples and carrots – They naturally clean teeth and stimulate saliva.

  • Cheese & yogurt – High in calcium and phosphates, great for strengthening enamel.

  • Nuts & seeds – Packed with nutrients that support gum health.

  • Water – The ultimate mouth cleanser. Staying hydrated helps rinse away food particles and bacteria.

Small Changes, Big Difference

Making simple, positive changes to your diet can do wonders for your oral health. Combined with regular brushing, flossing and dental check-ups, you’re setting yourself up for a lifetime of healthy smiles.
